Epiphanies
Episode #407
Written By: J. Michael Straczynski
Directed By: John C. Flinn III
Prior to Londo's return back to Babylon 5, he informs a
surprised Minister that the Centarum have decided to appoint him, the Minister as Regent
to the throne until a new emperor can be selected.
Garibaldi shocks everyone when he tenders his resignation as
head of security, effective immediately. Sheridan, learning from Zack that Garibaldi has
been acting strange ever since his return, places him in charge of security.
Meeting with a high ranking Psi Corps official, Bester
uncovers President Clark's plans to shut down Babylon 5 permanently. Later, through an ISN
broadcast, Sheridan and the crew learn of Clark's ban on all travel between Earth and
Babylon 5, and his orders to seize any ship found in violation of the new rules.
Spinning his own plan, Bester journeys to Babylon 5 and asks
to meet with the Captain. Once convened, he details specifics on the President's plan to
launch a propaganda war in order to undermine Sheridan's position back home and among the
alien governments. In exchange for the second part of the President's plan, Bester
requests that he be taken back to Z'ha'dum so that he can uncover Shadow technology which
he can subsequently use to free his lover, who lays in a suspended state inside a
cryogenic freezer.
Reluctantly agreeing to Bester's demands, Sheridan learns of
the President's scheme to dispatch the Black Omega Squadron, an elite attack for
answerable only to him, with orders to destroy a squadron of Starfuries previously sent
out by Earthforce for patrol purposes. The evidence left behind would implicate Babylon 5
and help sway public opinion back on Clark's side. Acting quickly, Sheridan sends Ivanova
along with a fleet of fighters which successfully assist the Earthforce patrol in fending
off the ambush.
Holding up his end of the agreement, Sheridan, Bester and the
crew venture to the Z'ha'dum jump gate, where Sheridan notices a stream of ships
evacuating. Acting on instinct, Sheridan orders the White Star to turn around, just prior
to a massive explosion which levels Z'ha'dum. Later, Sheridan visits Lyta who confesses
that her telepathic signal has set off the planet's destruction sequence. She, however,
chose not to pass along that knowledge for fear of allowing Z'ha'dum and its complex
technology to fall into the wrong hands, including Bester. While agreeing with her ethic,
Sheridan informs Lyta that any future command level decisions should be run through him or
else he will turn her over to the Psi Corps. |
